Sarah Salway is a poet, novelist and creative writing tutor. She was Canterbury Laureate in 2012, a Hawthornden Fellow and for three years, the RLF Fellow at the London School of Economics.

She is the prizewinning author of three novels, Something Beginning With (translated into nine languages), Tell Me Everything, and Getting the Picture, and a collection of short stories, Leading the Dance . Her second poetry collection, Digging Up Paradise, a mixture of poetry and travel notes based around Kent gardens, was published in May 2014. Her writing has been published widely, including in the Financial Times , the Virago Book of ShoppingMslexia, Pen International, Penguin’s The Poetry of Sex anthology and on BBC Radio 4.

With Victoria Field, she co-founded the Kent Writing and Wellbeing Network, and currently runs popular writing groups in the community and for the University of Kent and the LSE.

For the last three years, Sarah has written on, and in, public gardens, focusing particularly on how the space can create places of alchemy where we make our own boundaries to turn a public space into our own private paradise. She is particularly interested in community projects, and her poetry has been commissioned for several art projects in major English parks and gardens.
