Daniel went into nursing after completing a Philosophy degree which proved to be less vocationally useful than he had initially imagined. Between 2003 and2013 he worked as an emergency department nurse, mostly in London, while also studying and using his professional skills to travel to interesting places, including Israel and the West Bank, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Borneo and South East Asia.

In 2008-09 Daniel worked in Darfur as a Medical Team Leader for the humanitarian aid organisation Médecins SansFrontières. This experience prompted an interest in population health which led him to undertake a Master of Public Health degree at Kings College London.

He is currently employed as the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Ealing Hospital Trust in West London, while continuing to study and travel as work allows (in Summer 2013 he completed a course on Health & Human Rights at Harvard University). In August Daniel will be taking up his new role as a Speciality Registrar in Public Health in Nottingham.
